Guided rafting, fly-fishing, and canyon hikes on the Cache la Poudre — Colorado's only nationally designated Wild & Scenic river.
The Poudre Canyon is Fort Collins' backyard wilderness, and Poudre Canyon Outfitters has spent fifteen seasons learning every rapid, riffle, and switchback of it. Trips run from mellow family floats through the lower canyon to Class IV whitewater in the narrows, with wetsuits, guides, and shuttle included — you just show up with a swimsuit and nerve.
Off the water, the shop runs half-day fly-fishing schools on private stretches of the river and sunrise hikes to Greyrock's summit. Guides are the kind of people who know where the bighorn sheep hang out in March and which eddy holds trout in late August, and reviewers consistently mention them by name.
Book ahead for summer weekends — rafting slots fill two to three weeks out once the snowmelt peaks — and ask about the twilight float: the canyon at dusk, when the rock turns amber and the swallows come out, is the single best cheap thrill in Northern Colorado.
