The Sweetheart City, a public-art powerhouse at the mouth of the Big Thompson Canyon, halfway between the plains and the peaks.
Loveland is known as the Sweetheart City, and has been remailing valentines since 1947, when the postmaster and the head of the chamber of commerce started the program to put the town on the map. It now handstamps roughly a hundred thousand of them a year. Benson Sculpture Garden holds more than 185 permanent bronzes across about ten acres and hosts an outdoor juried sculpture show each August. West of town, US 34 turns into the Big Thompson Canyon.
