Greeley
Weld County's hub, where ag roots meet a university downtown, a serious arts scene, and some of the best eats east of I-25.
Greeley was founded in 1870 as the Union Colony, an agricultural settlement organized by Nathan Meeker of the New York Tribune, and has been the seat of Weld County since 1874. The University of Northern Colorado opened here in 1890 as the State Normal School. The colony's original plat, a grid of broad tree-lined avenues and streets, is still the shape of the older part of town.
